“Our learners today had the priviledge to play the award-winning TANKS game. It forms part of Africa Code Week which happens across our continent. In the metropole it is branded as #Reach10K, since 10000 learners will be reached with coding during October. TANKS was developed by Honours student Byron Batteson at NMU, and introduces learners to basic coding concepts.”

Njamela, of Cowan High School, was awarded the Eastern Cape Institute of Information Technology Professionals South Africa (IITPSA) 2018 Computer Applications Technology Teacher of the Year Award for his outstanding work as a passionate teacher, with learners achieving results well measuring up to those mostly obtainable by much better resourced schools.
He works professionally as a CAT teacher and is also committed to improving computer skills and access to learners from the township.

September 4 th Marimba Donation to Cowan Music Dept
Oil Tanking Company recently invited the Cowan High Choir to go and sing to an event they hd. After the
event the company CEO sent someone to say thank you to the school choir. They donated an amount of
R20 000 towards the school resources/needs. Ms T Mavuso, a Music Teacher at Cowan then
requested for purchase of Marimbas. Mr TG Dolley (Princiapal), Mr Van Wyke( EDO) and SGB
were there to honour the event.
